I love working with textiles and make both art quilts and functional accessories like scarves, purses, wallets, jewelry cases, glass cases, tablet covers, keychains and the like. I often get my inspiration from menswear textiles – woven wool, cashmere, vicuna, linen, silk, long staple cotton and some cashmere knits. They are made from precious materials, meant to last, take color beautifully and feel great. I try to work mostly with recycled or upcycled fabrics – often the remnants or leftovers from other textile artists’ creative processes. Since 6% of today’s landfills are textiles, and they are slow to break down, I am making a small conservation statement in the use of these materials. My work has evolved from making gifts for friends and family to doing more commissions and creating my line of accessories, Suitable Fabrications. Everything is handmade by me in my Evanston craft studio.
