Michael G. Ennis

I was born in Scotland and moved to the US over 20 years ago, settling here in Evanston with my then-young family. Questioning, observing, and preparing for the unexpected are integral to my work as a research and development engineer specializing in high-voltage equipment. Over time, I learned to use these same practices to communicate my experience and frame my questions through my photography. What  started, many years ago, as a way to tell stories, has evolved into a mindful practice, an immersion in my surroundings, through which I hope to reveal insights about our shared spaces.

My images are of everyday scenes, presenting new information to viewers and inviting them to reflect on it and ask questions. I enjoy presenting familiar landscapes from a slightly different perspective and like to do the same in my portraits of people, capturing their attitudes and expressions as they experience their environment.   Ever the engineer, I find that my most satisfying images are those in which I found answers to my own questions, and I hope they inform your inquiry as you seek answers to yours.

I’ve participated in several Evanston Made events, accepted for exhibitions in both Florence and the US and contribute regularly to both Getty Images and Shutterstock.
