Maya Lantsova

Maya Lantsova is a professional contemporary abstract artist whose work explores the resonance of color, texture, and atmosphere. Raised on the Black Sea coast, she developed an early sensitivity to vivid hues and natural rhythm. Trained in classical painting in St. Petersburg and fashion design in Moscow, Maya blends tradition with modernist theory, Bauhaus color studies, and design geometry. Her practice spans painting and textile experimentation, creating works that balance structure with spontaneity. Now based in the United States, she draws inspiration from post-war abstraction, producing paintings designed to transform contemporary interiors with light, depth, and presence.

Artist Statement

My work begins with color — its vibration, its balance, its ability to shape space. I build paintings through layered surfaces, allowing tones to merge, dissolve, or stand in contrast. Each gesture creates a dialogue between structure and spontaneity, presence and openness.

I draw inspiration from natural rhythms and architectural clarity: the horizon dissolving into light, the harmony of proportion, the tension between brightness and shadow. These elements guide my practice as I explore how abstraction can hold both energy and stillness.

On my creative path I explore the problems of inevitability and choice, the search for balance and identity. Designed to live in conversation with their surroundings, my paintings transform interiors into spaces of depth, resonance, and quiet intensity.
