My drawings reference diagrams, flowcharts, blueprints and typographic elements. I am referencing the visual language used to bring order to the chaotic systems in this world. Systems like exploded assembly diagrams from Swedish retailers, silicon chip fabrication, computer interfaces and circuit boards.
I prefer black and white for these drawings – the source material I am referencing is usually printed in a single color. The deep, rich black is often confused for a print – but these are all hand drawn with precision over multiple sittings. The work starts out as a pencil sketch. The outline and interior detail is worked and reworked – with more erasing than drawing until the “composition” is complete. Then the drawing is ready for inking. First an outline then four passes of crosshatched ink to complete the drawing.
