About Virginia O. Roeder:
Light, Line, Land
The title of this exhibition, Light, Line, Land, expresses the focus of my paintings: light (which is color); line (and how we see it); and how these are displayed on land.
I have always been fascinated by color. As a child, I was intrigued by the subtle varying colors of bird feathers and the ever-changing colors of light through treetops. As a graduate student in painting, I focused on learning and observing color relationships and color mixing. I was also fascinated with the contrast of extension (balance of colors). I became an abstract painter. More recently, I have transferred these interests back to landscape, sky, and water.

About Komal Wadhwa:
Rendezvous With Color
I am Komal Wadhwa, a nationally recognized and published fine artist & live event painter in Chicago. My artistic journey began in the world of web development, but it was after becoming a full-time mom that I discovered my true passion for painting. Today, I specialize in creating vibrant, impressionistic artwork that captures moments of love, nature, and human connection. As a live wedding painter, I travel across the United States (and internationally) to bring love stories to life on canvas.
While my work predominantly leans toward impressionism, I find that when I aim to express deep emotions, my style naturally shifts toward realism. I use this blend of impressionism and realism to evoke both the fleeting beauty of a moment and the profound emotional resonance behind it. Each piece is an attempt to communicate the depth of the human experience, whether it’s the quiet intimacy of a wedding day or the grandeur of a landscape.
The beauty I see in the world around me—whether in a couple’s first kiss, the soft glow of a sunset, or the bond between people—is my greatest inspiration. I seek to capture these moments not only through visual accuracy but by conveying the energy and emotion embedded in them. Every brushstroke is filled with intention and care, designed to bring out the unique spirit of each subject.
My goal as an artist is to create pieces that are not only visually engaging but also deeply meaningful. Each work is original, created with heart and soul, and I ensure that the finished piece will be preserved for future generations. My paintings are coated with varnish to protect them from the elements and maintain their vibrancy over time.
Art is more than my profession; it’s my passion. I also teach art both virtually and in-person and host public workshops, including at the Chicago Public Library, to share the joy and therapeutic power of creative expression. Through my work, I aim to foster a deeper connection between art and its audience, encouraging reflection, joy, and a sense of belonging.
Whether through commissioned pieces, live wedding paintings, or corporate events, my goal is to bring art into your life in a way that is meaningful and lasting. Each painting I create is an invitation to celebrate the beauty of life’s moments, and I hope my work brings you as much joy as it brings me to create.
