Throughout time, artists, musicians, dancers, actors, writers, and other creative people have used their talents in protest and resistance to tyranny and oppression.
At our program Art Making in a Time of Crisis, actors from the Wirtz Center’s production of February House will present excerpts from the musical, and a panel of distinguished artists and scholars will lead a discussion on art as rebellion, joy as resistance, and the very human need for self expression in times of turmoil.
Panelists include playwright and novelist Julie Marie Myatt, director and playwright Jessica Thebus, artist and activist Cynthia Weiss, and Chicago Poet Laureate avery r. young.
Presented in partnership by Northwestern University’s Wirtz Center, Evanston Public Library, and Hive Center for the Book Arts, Art Making in a Time of Crisis is part of our Year of Joy and Gratitude Big Read programming, and attendees and participants will receive a free copy of Ross Gay’s Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude.*
Registration encouraged at the EPL website, but not required.
Thank you to the National Endowment for the Arts and Arts Midwest for their support of this program.
