Workshop Description: In this introductory workshop, students will learn to dye natural fibers in a range of beautiful blues as we set up Art Makers Outpost’s inaugural indigo vat! Learn about one of the most fascinating and historically important natural dyes through hands-on experience. Students are invited to bring any wool, silk, cotton, or linen materials they wish to dye, though some dyeable material will be provided.
Aaron Storm (They/them) is an award-winning artist and educator based in Chicago, Illinois. Born and raised in the southern midwest, they received their BFA in Studio art from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky. They have been an Artist in Residence at the University of Arkansas and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, as well as a Studio Assistant at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center, and have exhibited their work nationally. Having trained with many Applachian and Japanese artisans, their work navigates intersections of historical imaging techniques and traditional textile practices in order to explore the queer eroticisms of death, grief, and the haunting presences of ambient phenomena.
