Leslie & Laura Hirshfield

Leslie and Laura Hirshfield are identical twin sisters who have been working together to combine their individual art disciplines into collages. Leslie received her MFA from Pratt Institute in New York and is a painter and art instructor whose mediums include oil, watercolor and drawing. Laura studied cloisonné enameling with Robert Kulicke in New York and is a retired librarian with a Masters degree in Library Science. They have shared an art studio in Evanston, Illinois for over 30 years doing their own artwork and teaching.

Leslie and Laura’s collaborative pieces combine recycled materials with ink and paint. Pieces of jewelry that were made but never worn, and unfinished drawings are redesigned into a new art form and evoke memories of their shared past. They are firm believers in recycling, having been well-taught by their mother, an artist, who never threw anything out and encouraged them to combine their talents. Their works have been exhibited and are in private collections.
