Cherie Lockett

I am a ceramic artist who sculpts, draws, and paints images onto functional pottery. My designs resonate with the mysteries of the cave painters, the power of animals, and other artifacts of our early ancestors. Pottery and art making have been a lifelong journey: beginning as a youth in Michigan; college student in Massachusetts (studied bronze casting and welding with Leonard DeLonga); and as a community developer in Senegal, I backpacked and explored ancient sites in West, East, and North Africa. My passion for ceramics further deepened and matured as a student at the Evanston Art Center and later at Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago. I continued my search and exposure as a student at Haystack. Some years ago, I had a bowl accepted in the Lark Ceramic book collection: 500 Raku Bold Explorations of a Dynamic Ceramics Technique. The underpinnings of my work draw from the encyclopedia of human expression, as each of us possesses a unique voice amidst the chorus of humanity.
