Marilyn Greenfield

Passionate about the beauty of the world around me, I have been expressing myself in clay for 35 years. The goal of my work is to create utilitarian and decorative pots that will enhance your home and enrich your experiences in eating, drinking, and entertaining. I design simple forms embellished with slips and glazes that are food and oven safe. Although I have created pots using various firing methods such as Raku, salt and soda-fired, my current body of work is fired twice, with the second firing in a 2350 F degree reduction atmosphere. This technique imparts a depth and richness to the glazes that is hard to beat!

My inspiration comes primarily from mindfully observing the natural world. In my efforts to invoke Nature’s energy into my pots, I often layer various glazes and slips and use a sgraffito technique to enrich the surfaces with nature’s images. Another source of my inspiration is the traditional Japanese and Chinese aesthetic.
