Stephen Murphy

Stephen Murphy is a visual artist & storyteller. He is a graduate of the Pratt Institute and the University of Chicago, and is ABT from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Advanced Visual Studies. Murphy is the former chair of the art department of New Trier High School, where he also taught photography. Until the pandemic he was a visiting artist at Walter Payton College Prep for three years.

Murphy has exhibited his work nationally and internationally. Some of the venues include the SE Center for Photography in Greenville, SC, the Overture Center for the Arts in Madison, WI, Praxis Gallery in Minneapolis, the Center for Photographic Arts in Carmel, CA, SOHO PHOTO in NYC, The International Center for Photography in NYC, The National Library of Lithuania, Museo Leone in Vercelli, Italy, and Perspective Gallery in Evanston.

His artist book, Memento Mori, was juried into the 8th International Artists Book Triennial and was exhibited in many venues throughout Europe. In cooperation with the Evanston Art Center, Murphy helped facilitate the Triennial crossing the Atlantic for the first time in its 25 year history and was on exhibit at the EAC in late summer of 2019.
