As my children were growing up we often took ceramics classes together at Robert Crown. I always enjoyed ‘playing in clay’ and wanted to share the experience. I began taking figure sculpture classes at both EAC and Sterling Center in Highland Park. Inspiring instructors included Philippe Faraut, Robin Power, and Sheila Oettinger. Sheila urged me to become a docent for the Skokie Sculpture Park and for almost 10 years I’ve provided tours to the public.
I feel I am able to capture both the features and expressions of faces in my sculptures given my almost 30 years experience as a clinical psychologist. In addition to sculpting the human form, I also sculpt both wild animals and pets from photographs and have began to create outdoor sculptures and plaques with a political/environmental message. I have participated in a number of shows and sold some of my pieces. While I have continued to create during the pandemic I look forward to joining a local community of artists.
