Keven Wilder
I am a painter living in Chicago, IL and Door County, WI. I am interested in the graphic interplay of organic positive and negative spaces, lights and darks, transparency and opacity found in nature. My work is primarily abstract evolving from representative images found in nature. I work in oils, gouache, pastels and mixed media usually in a square format which emphasizes the abstract quality of the work. I like the versatility of these various media. I particularly enjoy when the work embarks on a surprising direction of its own as I’m making it. This improvisational dialogue with the painting is particularly rewarding. Continually experimenting with and learning new techniques in workshops with other artists fuels my practice and keeps it ‘fresh’. Brilliant color, fluidity and gestural mark making are important to me in my current body of work.
