Junko Yokota
Wherever I am, I am intrigued by the world around me. Born in Tokyo and raised in Okinawa, I stayed in the United States after college. My career focused on education as a classroom teacher, school librarian, and university professor, with my research centered on visual literacy through interpreting picturebooks.
I’ve been a lifetime wanderer and photographer of whatever catches my eye and intrigues my mind. These days, I work to create images that express my artistic interpretation of the world. I build on my background of analyzing visual narratives to apply those understandings to photography.
I have been a resident of Evanston for nearly 30 years. My daughter graduated from Evanston schools, and I have been a volunteer for the Evanston High School Japanese program for over 20 years. I served as a trustee of the Evanston Public Library, and continue to contribute to the library and the Little Free Libraries of Evanston. I am appreciative of the myriad ways in which Evanston Made contributes to our community.
