An open letter from Evanston Made’s Director of Development, Jamie Thome
Good morning!
For the past couple of years, the idea of community has been at the forefront of my mind. What does it mean to be a part of a community? What do we owe one another in the various communities to which we belong? How do we define community, and how do we ensure that our beloved community is inclusive and supportive, not to mention safe?

These are all heady questions, for sure, and the answers seem both elusive and evident; in Evanston, it feels like our community organizations, local non-profits, and on-the-ground community builders and helpers are deeply concerned with these questions, both asking and answering them on a daily basis.

The seed for the Evanston Made+Pour monthly Get Down For Good dance parties arrived back in December, when Pour hosted an evening event in honor of the Evanston Made  artist whose work graced the walls that month.

That seed, scratched out on a napkin, started to grow from the first moment it came to us. Not only would we get to dance for two hours to great music, we could also foster connections, celebrate community, and raise money and awareness of other Evanston non profits.

Since then, Evanston Made+Pour GD4G has raised over $3,300 in all, for your organizations; the number of people coming out to dance each month has exponentially grown as well. We already have our beneficiaries for July and August lined up, and look forward to dancing with Center for Independent Futures (July) and Young, Black & Lit (August).

As Lisa D. often says, “When the waters rise for one, the waters rise for all,” and we are grateful to have been a part of raising the waters for you and your groups over the past 5 months.

In order to continue build our beloved community, to raise more waters, our next Get Down for Good on June 14th (7-9 pm) will benefit Evanston Made.

Our goal for that evening is to raise at least $2,500 for EM, so we can keep this up, and we need your help to get to that goal.

Please come support Evanston Made on June 14—we have had such a great time with all of you, and we want you to be there to dance with us again!

Please also share the event widely with your team, your supporters, and your networks! We’d love to have as many people at this Get Down for Good as possible!

Yours in community,
Jamie
(alongside Lisa and Liz of Evanston Made, and John and Jen of Pour)
