Perspective Gallery features, “The Alley Project: Beauty in Entropy” by MKRogers, Dec. 1 – 31
December 2, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - December 31, 2022 @ 3:00 pm
EVANSTON, IL – Perspective Gallery is proud to present “The Alley Project” a new show by fine art photographer Monica Kass Rogers. Featuring images from Rogers’ three-year exploration of Chicago and suburb’s more than 1,900 miles of alleyways, “The Alley Project” presents unexpected abstract views that showcase the “extra” in the ordinary.
“Beautiful sculptural shapes, deep textures, and “paintings” made by scratches, graffiti-removal and the weathering of time, were all there for the finding,” says Rogers, whose work gives a lingering glimpse of Chicago’s past, visible in layers of peeling paint, tilting garage doors, dumpster bins, and patched-over pylons. Her rules for the project were simple: To leave what she found undisturbed, manipulating nothing, capturing with her cameras only what was there. The resulting imagery is full of mystery, pareidolia and whimsy.
The Alley Project opens Thursday, December 1, with a public reception on Saturday, December 3 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monica will give an artist’s talk on Thursday, December 15, and the show will close on December 31.
