Mardy Sears and Adriana Poterash Opening Reception
September 17 @ 1:00 am - 4:00 pm
FreeEvanston, September — Evanston’s vibrant art scene is set to shine brighter than ever as two remarkable artists, Mardy Sears and Adriana Poterash, come together to present their unique perspectives and captivating creations in two upcoming exhibitions. These exhibitions promise to be an immersive experience that offers a glimpse into the artistic journeys and inspirations of these talented individuals.
Mardy Sears:
Mardy Sears, a respected member of the Evanston Made art community, has emerged as a versatile artist with a deep connection to the world around her. Armed with a Masters in Fine Arts from The Center for Book and Paper Arts, Columbia College Chicago, Mardy’s artistic journey has been a fusion of printmaking, ceramics, and artist book making. Her background as a Conservation Technician at The Art Institute of Chicago has lent her creations a unique texture that reflects the worn and aged surfaces she interacts with daily.
Animals, especially birds and sea creatures, take center stage in Mardy’s artistic expression. Through her intricate images, she weaves stories of humanity and links our lives to the environment. Mardy’s incorporation of text and poetry into her creations, often presented in book format, adds depth and meaning to her work. Her ceramics, designed with utilitarian purpose, and her prints and drawings, crafted to be tactile, invite viewers to engage with her art in a tangible and personal manner.
Adriana Poterash:
Adriana Poterash, an interdisciplinary artist with an international background, brings a unique blend of experiences to her art. Born in Romania, raised in St Petersburg, and now residing and working in Evanston, her diverse journey is reflected in her artwork. Armed with educational achievements from UIC, Harper College, and SAIC, Adriana’s paintings transcend traditional boundaries, merging elements of surrealism, oil painting, photo transfers, 3-D materials, and new media.
Adriana’s artwork is a fusion of the real and the surreal, inviting viewers to explore the depths of human memories and the fragility of the physical world. Her intricate layers, collapsing perspectives, and seamless integration of different mediums create altered realities that provoke emotional responses and thoughtful contemplation. The tactile materiality of her paintings demands an in-person viewing experience, allowing the richness of textures to be fully appreciated.
