April Exhibition at Perspective Fine Art Photography Gallery: The Real and Imagined

April 3 @ 4:00 pm - May 21 @ 5:00 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)

This April, Perspective Gallery’s April exhibition, The Real and Imagined, presents two very different bodies of work. Steve Geer’s “On Chicago Sreets” features snippets of everyday life in Chicago neighborhoods, while Anthony Iacuzzi’s “Imaginings: Exploring the Intersection of Human and Machine,” features a series of his original images next to their AI-augmented counterparts.  The show launches at noon April 3rd with an opening reception party April 5th from 5 to 7 p.m. Please also join us for an in-person discussion with the artists at the gallery Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m.

Talking about his work, Geer says, “These photographs do not feature special occasions or grand newsworthy events but scenes that are familiar and that we can identify with. As viewers we become like the photographer: flaneurs. We empathize with the strangers shown in the photographs and try to imagine ourselves in their shoes. Since the images present familiar interactions between people, they ultimately are about human nature and hence about us, the audience.”

Meanwhile, Iacuzzi’s work delves into the evolving relationship between human creativity and artificial intelligence, exploring how these technologies can both enhance and challenge our perceptions of reality. By employing AI prompts and other tools within Photoshop, he has invited the “machine” to reimagine the visual world, offering unexpected interpretations and unforeseen aesthetic possibilities. The results are a blend of the familiar and the fantastical, where recognizable scenes are transformed by the software algorithm and the imagination of the artist.

Iacuzzi hopes that when viewing his project visitors will contemplate the role of the artist in the age of AI. “With Imaginings I aim to spark conversation about the evolving nature of creativity, the limitations and potentials of AI, and the enduring power of human vision in shaping our understanding of the world,” says Iacuzzi. “Is the human touch diminished or amplified by this collaboration?” he muses, and “How do these augmented images challenge our understanding of authenticity and authorship?”

Visit Perspective Fine Art Photography Gallery to view The Real and Imagined any Thursday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.; Sundays until 5, through April 27th.
