Join us in creating an outdoor nature art exhibit across Evanston this April in celebration of Earth Month!
Evanston Made invites the public to create outdoor art experiences across parks, green spaces and yards!
April 1 through 30, the public is invited to create visual treasures throughout Evanston to surprise and delight visitors. Projects can range from the simplest activities that children can produce to thought provoking installations created by professional artists.

Event Organizer: Generations of Environmental Justice:
(RSVP here!) is an all-night Earth Day “teach-out” hosting a variety of presentations and workshops from individuals and organizations at the heart of the current environmental justice movement. There will also have opportunities to enjoy live music, make art, and watch films. All are invited to join, participate, and lend their own lived experience and perspective to this effort. Action is a core focus of the night. Inspired by Project Survival, a precursor event to the original Earth Day organized by Northwestern students in January 1970, Generations of Environmental Justice will serve as a catalyst for action on dire matters of the climate crisis, with a specific focus on community-based projects that we collectively identify as moving us towards our visions of a transformed world. MAKE A DISTINCTION and FIELD RESISTANCE RSVP
This program brings together two recent hybrid documentaries that prove that the botanical is political. MacKenzie and Mausert Mooney will appear for a discussion following the screening. This screening is supported by the Northwestern Buffett Institute for Global Affairs and the Climate Crisis + Media Arts Working Group.

Celebrate Earth Week with D65 Climate Action Teams and Citizens’ Greener Evanston on Friday, April 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Rotary auditorium,1560 Sherman Ave. The event will feature a screening of 10 second environmental films created by District 65 students.

We invite you to get involved in the Indigenous Medicine Garden through an upcoming event: screening of the award-winning documentary film Inhabitants: Indigenous Perspectives on Restoring Our World. This feature documentary follows five Native American Tribes across deserts, coastlines, forests, and prairies as they restore their traditional land management practices. In observance of Earth Day and Earth Week, we offer the option to screen the film virtually from April 22-29 or celebrate in person at our watch party on April 24 at 5:00 p.m. CT featuring Indigenous foods and refreshments at the Mitchell Museum. Both virtual and in-person viewers are invited to participate in a virtual panel discussion with filmmakers Costa Boutsikaris and Dr. Michael Kotutwa Johnson on April 24 at 7:00 p.m. CT.

Downtown Evanston Spring Clean Up, Friday, April 22, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Celebrate Earth Day with Downtown Evanston by volunteering at their Spring Clean Up! Downtown Evanston will provide gloves, bags and pickers and direct volunteers to areas where trash tends to accumulate. The group that collects the most trash throughout the downtown area will receive a prize! RSVP today!
Ecology Center Celebration - Saturday, April 23, 10 a.m. to noon
Stop by the Evanston Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd., for family-friendly activities.
Self-Organized Neighborhood Clean Up - Saturday, April 23
Clean up a park or public space in your neighborhood. Volunteers can pick up gloves and trash bags at the Evanston Ecology Center or Robert Crown Community Center beginning Thurs., April 21.
Main-Dempster Mile Earth Day Clean-up - Saturday, April 23, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Sign up to help clean along the Main-Dempster Mile on Earth Day! Any volunteers who help with the Earth Day Cleanup will get some treats from neighborhood businesses.

- Create your nature art and install in a public space or your own yard within Evanston.

What kind of art can I make?
We are encouraging participants to make "nature art", or art that uses natural materials that can be found outdoors. This can be sculptures created in the parks or art pieces created at home/studio. Check out our Winter Wonderland gallery for ideas or the hashtag #landart on Instagram.
Any materials brought in will need to be removed by May 1, 2021 and are the responsibility of the artist. Deinstallation will happen on a case by case basis.
FAQs:
- What is nature art? We are encouraging people to make art using materials they find in nature. We are also happy to hang non-natural pieces such as yarn art and painted boxes. BUT they must be removed at the end of the month!
- Will the art be protected? Absolutely not! Do not hang or install anything valuable. In addition to snow, rain and wind, it would not be surprising to find art disrupted by human interference.
